Typhoon Lagoon
According to Disney legend, Typhoon Lagoon was once a beautiful tropical resort. All was going well until a quick-moving typhoon roared through the area, destroying everything in its path!
The nearby fishing village was also devastated as their fleet of boats and equipment were picked up by the powerful winds and strewn about like toys. One bizarre piece of storm damage was a shrimp boat that landed atop the opening of Mt. Mayday, the community’s picturesque volcano!
Try as it might, the volcano’s constant geyser activity was unable to dislodge the boat from its opening. The results were the most powerful water eruptions the community had ever seen! Some of them were as high as 45 feet!
They also noticed the gushing waterways that quickly formed off the sides of the mountain by these constant eruptions and realized they had a potential tourist attraction on their hands! In fact, some of the ‘rubbernecks’ that came to observe the storm damage were diving in the warmed waters and rushing rivers!
And the rest is history as they say … Slides were quickly built; rope bridges were constructed; and the largest wave pool in North America was carved out of the beach for some body-surfing fun!
